Making Jesus Jealous

The Lord is a jealous God.But could we be making Him even more jealous? These thoughts come to mind as we see some of us ministers of the gospel being driven in with ‘secret service agents’ jogging beside our ride. How about having rows of greeters clapping for us as we make our way into the sanctuary? There could even be that extra ‘jara’ of flower petals being thrown on the floor. Which reminds me of an incident with one of my senior friends I had invited from the USA a few years ago. He told me he nearly tripped when this was done. How about people kneeling down to talk to us? I’ve seen this happen with people my age or younger. I’m 57. I find it quite bewildering. How about gisting in the ‘green room’ while worship is going on? Why do the bios of invited ministers seem loftier than that of the Lord?I must apply some balance here. We must honour each other and treat those whom we have invited to minister with respect and they should also be made comfortable. But we have to keep an eye on it being too much. I must also deliberately put a stop to excesses. Except I came in to the hall with a bag of rice, I really don’t need anyone to carry anything for me; not my bag, not my iPad.It’s time to trim away some of these excesses so that we don’t get in the way of God’s glorious light.I wonder if we are not sometimes celebrated more than the Author of our Faith. I wonder if Jesus isn’t jealous. I truly wonder

Can God say Wow?

As much as the opportunity permits, I find a way to tell my wife what she means to me. On our wedding anniversary or her birthday, I would get a blank card, reflect and put together words that I know will make her smile and melt her heart. I curate these words so she can go wow!I think as Pastors, worship leaders and creative teams, we need to intentionally do things that point to the awesomeness of God. All assets and talents must come and work together for that good.I know it’s possible for God to say wow! We can see examples in the scripture. I think wow was His response when Abraham obeyed to sacrifice Issac. Wow was Jesus’ response to the centurion. Scripture says he was amazed and He actually turned around on the spot. Wow was God’s response to Solomon for sacrificing 1000 cattle. Wow was God’s response to David when he told God of his plan to build him a house. The Wow factor has nothing to do with costliness. It has to do with thoughtfulness. When the scriptures talk about not giving something that costs nothing, it’s not just about money. And here’s the thing - God can help you to get God to say wow! How do I mean? The Holy Spirit in you who is God has a desire to glorify the Father and the Son. If we ask, He will drop hints on what we can do that will bring God pleasure.Holy Spirit help us to bring pleasure to the Father and the Son
